Police Clearance Reports and the Mental Health Act
What is a police record check? Do you need to use them when screening volunteers at your agency? How does the Mental Health Act affect police records?
Police Records Checks can certainly be a bit confusing; this session should help to dispel that mystery. In this networking workshop, your presenter will outline what a Police Records Check is, when it is appropriate, how to get one, the changes that have been implemented in Peel and what to do with it once you have it! Lots of time will be left at the end for questions so come prepared with yours!

Your presenter is… Karen Vandervelde
Karen is a Supervisor at the Peel Regional Police with the Records Services – Records Search Unit. Karen has been with the Peel Police Records Services for eighteen years and has been the Supervisor of the Records Search Unit for the past twelve years.

Leanne is currently the Manager of Human Resources for Community Living Mississauga. She is a member of the Human Resources Professional Association, Peel Chapter. Her interests include Marathon running, music and reading.

With global economic crisis and funding cuts to non-profit organizations the workplace is changing and these changes will affect both individual and corporate volunteers.

Your presenter is… Paul Faguy
Paul Faguy is currently Project Manager at PROCure, Innovator and PathFinder at Human Resources and Health Care Consulting and President and General Manager at Staff Aid. He is a senior healthcare executive with over twenty years’ leadership experience and thirty years of human resource management experience. Paul has recently helped healthcare and private sector organizations with both their planning and their operations in diverse locations - Windsor/Sarnia/Chatham, Toronto, Doha Qatar and Northern Ontario.

Developing a Culturally Competent Volunteer Program
This workshop will provide you with resources and tools to ensure that your Volunteer Program is using Best Practises in Cultural Competency. PVAN will also be celebrating the International Day of the Volunteer and if you wish to share traditional foods of your culture you are invited to do so.

Your Presenter is… Douglas Stewart
Douglas has worked as an equity trainer, dispute resolution officer and as Chief Human Rights Advisor at Centennial College. Douglas works for Competence Consultants and now focuses on the field of organizational change management, diversity, human rights and cultural competence. He primarily works on building the capacity of smaller community based not for profit organizations, providing strategic planning, systems reviews, process facilitation, and a range of professional development services. He has also worked with the Toronto District School Board on anti-discrimination initiatives and in alternative school programs. Douglas is also very active in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual community and he was the founding Executive Director of the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention.
